Dudley, UK — May, 2025
On May 1st, Apprentice Sales Engineer Aran Patel and Technical Sales Engineer Dom Palermo participated in the Engineer a Podcast workshop in Wolverhampton. Hosted by Fun Kids Radio, along with the Royal Academy of Engineering and the Institute of Water. The event aimed to inspire young minds about engineering—especially in the water sector—through podcasting.
Talking Valves with the Next Generation
As part of the workshop, Aran and Dom recorded a 15-minute podcast for a young audience. Their topic? The importance of valves in everyday life—from flushing toilets to managing city water and wastewater systems. Using simple language and fun analogies, they explained how valves act like “traffic lights for water,” controlling flow and keeping everything running smoothly.
They also shared real-life stories to keep the episode engaging. Like when a broken valve turned Aran’s kitchen into a mini waterfall!
Aran on Apprenticeships
A highlight of the podcast was Aran’s story as an apprentice. He shared how apprenticeships offer hands-on experience, a salary, and valuable industry knowledge.—an ideal path for those who want to learn by doing. His advice to students: be curious, ask questions, and consider all the routes into engineering.
Reflecting on the Event
“Seeing kids excited about valves and engineering was amazing,” said Dom. “It shows how important it is to connect with them in ways they understand.”
For Aran, it was a rewarding chance to give back: “Events like this remind you why you do what you do.”
In May
We’re also pleased to have attended two key events this month:

We were proud sponsors of this great networking and industry celebration. - WES Conference – Telford 15th May
A fantastic event highlighting the role of women in engineering and promoting inclusion across the sector.
