National Apprenticeship Week

As part of National Apprenticeship Week, we caught up with Aran, one of our 2023/2024 apprentices.

We asked Aran what advice would he give to anybody thinking of starting an apprenticeship?

Aran: “Working as an apprentice within the water industry has been a fantastic experience and has allowed me to gain training and skills that I wouldn’t have achieved through a regular working role. I would encourage anyone thinking about doing an apprenticeship to consider one as it has been greatly beneficial to my development. My advice to you would be to approach it with an open mind and a willingness to absorb everything around you. Seize every chance to learn from experienced professionals, ask questions, and immerse yourself in the industry. It may not always be easy, but the skills and knowledge you’ll gain will be invaluable.

“Many young people starting their apprenticeship in the Water industry can find the experience quite daunting.

“As a former apprentice who has progressed into a management position, there’s a unique joy in guiding and mentoring the new apprentices. Each day brings a sense of fulfilment as I draw from my own experiences to nurture their growth and potential. Witnessing their enthusiasm and eagerness to learn reignites my own passion for the craft. It’s immensely gratifying to see them seize new opportunities, overcome challenges, and blossom into skilled professionals. Guiding them through their journey is not just about imparting knowledge but also fostering confidence and resilience, knowing that I’m playing a role in shaping their future success.”
